My gp has started me on 5mg of amlodipine for suspected angina. I’ve not had any actual investigations for this yet although my symptoms are highly suggestive of it. He didn’t tell me an awful lot about it but reading on the nhs website it says it can take some time for it to kick in and in fact symptoms can get worse before they get better. Just wondered what anyone else’s experience was.
Thanks in advance

It can take a week or so before full benefits felt.
AMLODIPINE is a calcium channel blocker. Relaxes blood vessels usually used lower blood pressure.
As u have not been confirmed as angina as yet have probably given u amlodipine to reduce blood pressure but the effects of relaxing blood vessels will promote more blood to heart muscles.
(angina is caused by shortage of blood and oxygen to heart muscles on exertion).
Thanks again. Gp wants to see me in 3 weeks then hopefully refer me on. Been taking it a week and still getting chest aches, but nhs website says can take a few weeks to work and actually get worse which seems a bit odd 🤔
