Hi. I am a 78 year old male. Diagnosed with angina about 28 years ago. Been manageable until recently. An angiogram produced : 2 vessel coronary artery disease-calcified severe proximal Cx disease ( dormant Cx ) and severe mid LAD disease. Also informed that a third artery was blocked but that wasn't important. Just had 3 stents fitted. Someone has told me that I have a life expectancy of about 12 months. Is this a fair assessment please.
LIFE EXPECTANCY.: Hi. I am a 78 year... - British Heart Fou...
LIFE EXPECTANCY.

Can I ask who told you that you have a life expectancy of 12 months?
I was referred to page on the internet.
Under no circumstances believe anything googled, it's always totally wrong!! In fact according to Dr Google my husband should have been dead at least 2 years ago, he's still here! Nobody can say for certain what someones life expectancy is. Why not ring the BHF nurses tomorrow, I'm sure they'll be more than able to reassure you.
Have you spoken to a doctor about this? Another suggestion is to speak to a BHF nurse.I doubt they would give you a life expectancy but they would discuss your case with you.Hope you get some support soon.
Hi. Not had chance to speak with a Doctor yet and I am not very enthusiastic about getting a right response. I spoke to the guy for a few minutes before he did the work on me. He told me that at a group meeting it was decided I had stents rather than bypass which he agreed with. My main concern is my son has Parkinson's disease and very soon he will be bed ridden and I am the only one in the family who can support him.

Hello Keith and welcome to the forum! And who exactly told you that? Too many people use Dr Google and then recite out-of-date and/or totally incorrect rubbish!
I know two people who are doing well in their early/mid nineties and they are both over forty years post (HA for one and bypass for the other). All they have done is make the lifestyle changes, keep physically and mentally active, and take the medication as advised.
Recently someone said people survive ten to twelve years post transplant and yet Harefield Hamsters (all individuals that have had a transplant) has members who have passed 35 years!
Diet plays a big part Im told. One doctor told me stenting is 15 years GOOJF card. That will do me.
