Hello, don't panic! Stents last forever. Most stents now have a coating to prevent scar tissue growing between the gaps so stents rarely fail - if one does it normally occurs within the first 6-9 months, as you're well past that date you shouldn't be worried. Here's a link on the subject :-

oh thanks very much i just had a test with some new technology and the results were as below ... for some reason im panicking today... i even emailed the cardiolists PA asking life expantancy after stent.. maybe been silly thx for reply appreciate it

MCG severity score was 3 (0-22) indicating a low likelihood of obstructive coronary disease.

Importantly there was no evidence of localised ischaemic signalling. There was however evidence of incipient arrhythmia/atrial fibrillation. The importance of the MCG is that it can signal such problems well in advance

I can't use myself as an example as i just tipped a year with two but my brother in law is past ten years with his and an older friend is eight years no problems.

its one of the biggest issues ive had .. i had the stent done in spain... when i came back had very little dialogue how to live with stent,

Hi SmokeAKipper, well Another Spanish stent here too, and a horrific lack of contact with my UK GP, mine refused to even discuss my case because of where it happened! I’ve moved and changed doctors, and gone privately to a cardiologist to glean a bit of info as what had happened and where to go next! Scary. I’m now 12 weeks out and trying to get my head round where my life is heading. From what I gather the first 6 months are biggest risk, but what to do on this time, how exercise, how to live well, it’s all difficult amidst this COVID crisis with no face to face consultations and no or little cardio rehab. Was I too quick to get back on my bike 12 days out of hospital, and I now not exercising enough, am I now overdoing it. This alone is causing big stress problems

Yah its happened to me walking a Camino in Spain.. i admitted myself to hospital.. next thing .. im having a stent.. they were awesome... thats 2 yrs ago... i think ive had a second chance.. ive been recommended a vegan diet.. also co-enzyme Q due to lack of energy and magnesium citrate 300mg powder... but id always ask your doctor/cardiologist.. one thing i was told is see your local pharmacist cause your doses can be incorrect.. and print out the list of the side affects of the drugs your on... i had chest sensations .. its your muscles just coming to terms... but if in doubt go to casualty... sometimes confidence becomes low.. this forum is great ..these guys and dolls are great.. if you need a chat let me know glad to help

in reply to

Yup and now I’m terrified , I’m scared anyway but having a limit on your life like that.

im reassured with all the folks reply here.. one of the guys had a stent when he was 53 hes now 70 and going strong

in reply toSmokeAKipper

Good to know , I feel like I’ve just been left too it , out of hospital and I’ve heard nothing from anyone since . So yeah being told 60 and having no one doing a follow up is scarey

In your place I would ask the doctor to refer me to a specialist saying I was very anxious. If he said no or the wait was too long I would go private. Worth every penny to get an expert opinion.

in reply toDiggyDoggy

Yeah thanks for that , my husband’s American and he’s all for going private, im more the type to apologise for bleeding on their latex gloves kinda thing . I’m just fed up now , ha a week ago today and I’ve heard nothing , not even from my local gp.

Stents don’t wear out. They’re now made of chrome cobalt and last indefinitely. Must to my relief because I got one six weeks ago.

No worries to be honest I’ve made it up as I’ve gone along. I bought a couple of cook books and it was trial and error. I make my own hummus, burgers and a lot of Indian cooking can be adjusted to be vegan. Most things seem to have a vegan alternative.

I use google a lot.

Sorry I’m not much help.

I think it helps with plaque rather than plague. Not much use having a stent if you catch the plague lol

He has 7 stents in total now, having had 4 angioplasties over the years, most recently 7 years ago. He's a carnivore by inclination but eats a fair amount of fruit and veg, not vegetarian but does mainly follow a low fat diet since having an infected gall bladder 5 years ago. He's very active for an old boy, lots of DIY and we have a huge 2 acre garden and 0.5 acre pond, all of which he manages, plus dog walk of several miles each day.

I had 2 fitted 17 years ago and am still great now at 65 you’ll be fine they’re a life changer 👍

Pussacat profile image
Pussacat

Had mine fitted in February and asked just that. I was advised they last anywhere from 10 years to forever but that a new one can be fitted underneath if ever the need was to arise. This is unlikely hopefully but as I was awake when they fitted this one as an emergency, I am okay with the procedure for any I may need in the future. I am 55 and determined to have a good long time to annoy people yet 😸.
