I am going on holiday and need oxygen on flight which I have organised. However I have a concentrator to take with me that I can use while on holiday. Can this go in the hold as it’s on pulse only so can’t use it in flight. Or must it go as Hand luggage.

Get in touch with airline with whom you are travelling. It is the only way to get definitive advice. My husband takes CPAP machine and Jet2 allow that in cabin in addition to hand luggage allowance but different device and airlines vary.
Besides contacting the airline I would suggest contacting the manufacturers of the concentrator. The temperature/pressure changes in the hold may be unacceptable for the equipment leading to damage.
I take my portable oxygen concentrator as allowed extra hand luggage.
I use it throughout the flight it only gives me a small blast of oxygen when I breathe in.
Check with the airline. They usually ask for a fit to fly letter from your GP.
Also all airlines state you have to have enough batteries charged to last twice the length of the flight.
The make of the concentrator must also be approved by the airline.
I personally would not put the concentrator in the hold. As Michael has said the low temperatures and pressures may well damage the equipment. Also if it gets lost you will have no oxygen while on holiday.
Hi Milkfairy, thank you for the reply. I have to fly with 2 oxygen tanks 2ltrs per min and put 2 in the hold for return journey, I have to have the tanks on constant. My concentrator is only pulse, so I don’t know if Jet2 would let me bring the concentrator on board as an extra as I need it for the holiday only.
I suggest you give the airline a call. Say you need to take the concentrator as a backup supply. Get your GP to write in your fit to fly letter that you need to take the concentrator with you for this reason.
