Heart Murmurs Worried

Hello everyone,

I have been having heart palpitations (tachycardia) for the last 4 months.

I had an appointment with cardiologist today and he listened to my heart and found out murmurs but ECG came back normal with fast heart rate.

He now asked for ECHO, 72 hours monitor, and chest X-ray to be done.

Although he said the murmur could be due to my fast heart rate but I am so worried that it might be something very big and anxiety is literally shaking me :(.

Hi, I had a heart murmur for about 40 years before I had any treatment. As your ECG was normal your cardiologist is running the other tests to get to the bottom of it. Hopefully they will come back okay and you will just need some medication. Please try to stay positive and not think the worst, easier said than done I know, but stressing about it won’t help you or your heart, so try to relax.

Hi !

Please try not to worry . It might be all okay and probably is ! I was told that I had a heart murmur whilst in hospital about a month ago,and I'm still alive ! Try to relax and do things to take your mind off it.

Take Care

Shane, it might reassure you to hear that I was diagnosed with a heart murmur when being investigated for something totally unrelated about 14 years ago. An echocardiogram revealed a “slightly leaking mitral heart valve, no treatment needed”. Just 6 months ago, I had some chest pain and went to the GP. She discovered low oxygen levels and shipped me off to hospital where I was admitted for a few days. A repeat echo showed what the consultant described as a now “moderate to severe leak”. I was prescribed a beta blocker, discharged and given a follow-up appointment 3 months later. No further treatment at this time, just a repeat echo in a yeat’s time. So please do try not to worry - if it is a leaky valve that is causing the heart murmur, there may be no further intervention apart from perhaps some simple medication, and your anxiety will do nothing but just place unnecessary stress on your body. So deep breaths and relax.
