Does anyone know if I can take anything for this bout of IBS I'm currently and suddenly experiencing. I'm asking for the obvious reason that I'm on heart Meds so wondered if anything I decide to take will cause a problem
IBS: Does anyone know if I can take... - British Heart Fou...
IBS
I used to take Colpermin, but not sure with your meds, however you can prob go for the peppermint oil route.
Hello Rob6868. You don’t say what you’re proposing to take for the IBS or what meds you’re on. Do you have prescribed meds for the IBS? If so you need to check with the pharmacist or GP.
How do you know it’s IBS? If it’s been diagnosed then surely you were told what to take. If it’s not diagnosed it may not be IBS it may be side effects of your heart meds. Either way you need to speak to GP or pharmacist.
I would suggest you talk to your GP. Other good sources of information might be the BHF nurses and the ones at the Crohn's and Colitis charity.
If you have symptoms of IBS you need to have it checked out. It can sometimes be confused with something more serious. My pharmacist would only sell me one pack of Colpermin while I was waiting to see a GP, and when I went to the surgery they wanted to do lots of tests. If you’re already diagnosed with it your pharmacist will be able to suggest what you can take. I was able to take Mebiverine, an antispasmodic, with my heart meds, but best get it checked by professionals.
I always believed IBS was something the doctors labeled because not having a clue about an illness or illnesses related to stomach or bowel related problems people commonly have which are wide ranging so they label it "IBS" they're not very pleasant experiences either as my deceased partner suffered many years from tummy and bowel related problems but died from cervical cancer in January.
I was led to believe that IBS (similar symptoms to diverticulitis) is a disease caused by a poor or irregular diet where undigested food lays in the gut causing pockets or indentations which causes the problems.
I don't eat a poor diet
IBS and diverticulitis are 2 totally different things.
Diverticulitis is an acute state of a bowel disease called diverticulosis please do your research
How true
I thought this group was to be able to obtain quality information on subjects close to our hearts. I thank you for your clarity however I clearly said I WAS LED TO BELIEVE and therefore had no reason to do further research. Had I any doubt that the medical personal that gave me this information was incorrect, then I perhaps would have done. Your remark therefore is somewhat like "teaching your granny to suck eggs" judgemental and really not helpful what so ever.
I notice you have removed you main post on this topic entitled IBS where you attached a graphic detailing symptoms of diverticulosis with no comment that it was what you had been led to believe. Hence the reason I asked you in this post to do research as your information is not correct. Your other post, now deleted, was in my opinion, dangerous
I removed the post because it offended YOU. You are not the adjudicators on these pages and I suggest you keep your torrid comments to yourself. If we are unable to expand our knowledge of a subject we suffer from, we cannot learn. I did think that IBS and Diverticulitis were one and the same - however I stand corrected, but in some ways they are similar in how they present, which may actually help others to understand the difference. The way you have just spoken to me makes me very sad for you, for you obviously are unable to see the bigger picture of the meaning of this site. When "Milkfairy" gave me some resources to ponder upon I removed the post. - That was at the time you were telling me to do my research before posting incorrect information - Now I ask you, if it was just a matter of a few well structured questions to Bing, this web site would then become redundant, unless purely run for those that do no wrong and know all the answers before they hit a key! If you do wish to carry on with meaningful discussions perhaps you could lose the attitude and be a little more civil.
If I might be afforded the luxury of replying to your original post, which really surprises me since you appear so knowledgeable. Why would someone with your understanding of medical issues ask
" Does anyone know if I can take anything for this bout of IBS I'm currently and suddenly experiencing. I'm asking for the obvious reason that I'm on heart Meds so wondered if anything I decide to take will cause a problem"
When the simple answer is to ask your family doctor?
Please have a look at my post from 2 days ago (which was not edited) where I have clearly stated the following: -
"I was led to believe that IBS (similar symptoms to diverticulitis) is a disease caused by a poor or irregular diet where undigested food lays in the gut causing pockets or indentations which causes the problems"
You owe me an apology
I do not owe you any apology I have am not the one being personally offensive. All I have done is point out fact. You on the other hand feel the need to be rude. That is of course your perogative, however it is not something I need to tolerate. I will no longer respond to your offensive posts.
Excellent news!
I had ibs for many years before my heart attack but my usual meds had to be changed as they conflicted with my new heart meds. The new ibs meds caused the condition to worsen, and despite trying several different ones, it resulted in constant diarrhoea for over a month. My GP took over when the consultant seemed to be at a loss and prescribed Ranitidine but said, despite what it said on the packet, it could be taken up to 6 times a day if necessary. Within a week my ibs improved dramatically and I now only take 2 a day. Ibs virtually gone after 15 years by a combination of the meds AND a change in diet Resulting in a 4 1/2 stone weight loss. I hope you find the correct treatment for yourself soon but over the counter meds must be taken with caution. Ranitidine can be bought over the counter in low doses so you could check with pharmacy. I take a much higher dose but if pharmacist is reassuring you could possibly double it? Good luck x
The only thing that ever helped my IBS was a low fibre diet; not what is normally recommended but for some types of IBS it works.
Rob
Virtually every tablet I take the side effect is either constipation or diarrhoea.
My GP was so concerned by my new acute pain that I ended up being sent for a CT colonoscopy in January. All clear thank goodness.
I do try and nourish my biome and nurture my gut flora which has helped and my innards have calmed down.
Lots of yoghurt always live and full fat.
Mediterranean diet with extra pulses.
Oh and the usual managing stress Haha!
With all due respects, why not have a talk with your chemist or Pharmacist? They will know far more than we do about problems with mixing drugs
