Morning - it's awful not getting enough sleep! If you have heart disease and you're on medications the safest thing to do is to check with your GP or specialist first so they can prescribe something. Over the counter remedies might be safe to use but it's best to check in case there's any interactions with your medications, the same goes for herbal remedies and similar - you'd be surprised what doesn't suit!

Hope this helps, Chris

Same,

I am just going to have an hours sleep now due to another sleepless night.

They advice not to do that as it obviously disrupts the next night and so on, but I am absolutely exhausted.

However I have tried it all:

Not going to sleep in the day,

No caffeine after lunch,

No radio, music, TV etc.

Or having soft relaxing music.

Not eating after 18:00,

Daily exercise,

Sticking to bedtime routines.

Sometimes for a couple of weeks there, evan though I still woke every couple of hours, I slept really deep each time. I thought things were looking up at last.

But low and be hold, this past week, back to square one. Sleeping on the poor side again.

Feels like I have had blocked ears and presure headaches for couple of months now, with horrible earache. Two Gps have said my ears are completely clear? I don't feel I have issues with my hearing?

Today I have a real heavy ache in the middle of my chest, part of which is my sternum.

Also reflux is pretty bad today.

So afraid I can't advice, but just to let you know, I really do know how you feel.bI am sending supportive hugs, Jo 😁

Hi Taz, I'm so sorry you can't sleep. Insomnia is a very frequent problem in people with heart conditions as well as having other medical issues . We know that sometimes the medications can make things worse. But as well as having a chat with your GP /pharmacist as suggested, it might be worth considering CBT ( cognitive behavioural therapy) - although it is often associated with anxiety/depression it can be an effective treatment specifically for people who can't sleep ( I have met several patients in my clinical practice that this has finally been an effective way of establishing a much missed normal sleeping pattern!) You can either ask your GP to refer you or you can access it yourself online.

Good luck!

Philippa

Hi and thanks for the reply I’m actually attending a mindfulness group every Tuesday for two hours but at the minute I’m not find it helpful I think I’m just too tired too stressed and not feeling it at the minute but I’ll keep going as it was my heart specialist who referred me

Yes same here, I went to the group one a few weeks ago, but it was half way throgh the six week course. And then I found I couldn't make it to the next one due to tummy upset.

But I didn't really find that poticula one was what I needed anyway.

So they sent me to a one to one session last week. It is for six weeks in total.

Again not sure of it, but I do feel I need to talk and let it all out so to speak. So I am going to carry on with it to the end. Got noughing to loose ha 😆

I have to agree he’s the talking that seems to help me more , the meditation makes me very uncomfortable I have even tried sitting on the floor against a wall for support but sadly it’s not helping I’ll do it and see the course out just so I’ve gave it my best shot but I really can’t see it working x

Hope you have a great nights sleep tonight 😊

I use meditation and relaxation exercises, doesn't always help and at times I can be nearly in tears with frustration, so can sympathise. At the moment I have the added problem of rotator cuff injury to my shoulder so if I roll onto my right shoulder or move the arm the wrong way I get a shooting pain down my arm, which tends to wake me up! Hope you can get sorted, but worth talking to your GP cos could even be the medication you are on causing, or adding, to the problem.

Hi Taz I'm sorry to hear your not sleeping I too had a period of not sleeping . I just couldn't get to sleep for hours znc then when I woke in the night I could not get back to sleep . I thought it must me my Atorvastatin tablets I was given 20 mg which seemed ok then another 10mg as my cholesterol was just over 4. Looking back that was when the problem started so I spoke to Gp and stopped the 10mg and after a week I'm sleeping normally again . I have since seen the consultant who thinks it may be better for me to be given another statin instead . Speak to your Gp it could be one of your tablets are you also on Statins?? Hope you get it sorted soon xx

Yea I also have a peripheral neuropathy so I take muscle relaxant at night amongst other medication that should help me to sleep but that’s not the case , I was taking antihistamines as well but thought it’s a bit dangerous with my medical history I’ll speak to my gp thank you x

Hi Taz, No sleep, been there, sucks. Good sleepers don't know how lucky they are. First a comfy bed too put you in the right frame of mind, a nightcap is usually tempting but probably not recommended, maybe cocoa. I know someone who uses melatonin, but it's prescription I think. A bit of pillow talk can help, or stick on the headphones with some music witha repetitive rhythm works for me, a kind off meditation/relaxation which switches itself off in an hour or so. Lower your heart beat and breathing and think of something pleasent...no TV or Devices. Hope that helps.

Hi Taz, have you tried the deep breathing techniques which are meant to induce sleep? There are a couple you should try which you can Google. The other thing of course is to rest even if you can't sleep. It's surprising how little sleep you need though we'd all love 8 hours!

I'm actually starting to notice how irregular mine is becoming now and hope it doesn't get too bad as it provokes SVT in me.

If I can't sleep in bed I find getting up and watching some tv helps as long as it's a programme like Gardeners World and not The Walking Dead :)

Thanks for the reply , I haven’t tried the breathing technique but I will , anything is worth a try thank you 😊
