Troponin levels what do they mean

I am a 34 year old man I was in A&E this week with chest pain. I have long standing very hig BP of around 185 over 120 on average I started a new BP medication this week for hypertension called doxazozin that night of first taking it my heart rate went up to 130 to 150bpm. I had troponin which was 59 there did another hour later was 71 they said I had heart attack. In the morning with out any further tests they said was most likely the fast heart beat that caused the troponin to raise or might just be naturally higher in me but I am very young so should be OK with a follow up in appointment in couple of weeks. Is that level high for troponin should I be worried

Hi Bennyboy. I wouldn’t be able to interpret your signs or measures I’m afraid, but I would take any more chest pain seriously and call the Ambulance. Better to be safe.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I am not a qualified doctor but your levels are in the range (if same units are used) that something probably happened rather than may have happened. As mentioned it is 999 if you get chest pains which may be accompanied by dizziness and/or nausea. Definitely call your GP to discuss on Monday. The BHF nurses will also be available then.

Hi, I had figures similar .39 then .82 with my Nstemi Age 42, but they said with those figures it was a very small heart attack. Didn't feel that small. I ended up with 3 stents in LAD and 1 in RCA. I would like to know what ranges in troponin rise are classified as small. Maybe your troponin rise was due to something else. I am sure if they thought it was something major they would have kept you in and done an angiogram.

I would try not to worry, easier said than done and ring doctors on Monday and ask to be seen that day, if only to ask questions.
