Hi I’m 25 days post op from hvr and unfortunately have a cold and coughing , how long can I expect to be in strong pain when I cough. I’m holding a rolled towel to my chest but feel like it’s not surprising the pain, apart from that having a good recovery ?

I was six or maybe even eight weeks post surgery before the pain accompanying coughing subsided to something fairly moderate. And it was about ten or eleven weeks before there was absolutely no pain at all.
The good news though is that even immediately after surgery the pain was only ever fleeting, a sharp stabbing sensation and then it's completely over. I found it was easy to become more afraid of that particular pain that it really warranted.
Thankyou for your informative reply I’m thinking I have a few more weeks yet ,as it is at the moment it takes it out of me and prob takes at least an hour to get over it, but on the whole am recovering well the coughing is the only setback thankyou.
Yes I am taking painkillers regularly through the day and am sure they are helping to a degree was just wandering how long it takes until it stops hurting when coughing thx
It is hard to put an exact time on it but I would say coughing was not an issue after 6 - 8 weeks approximately. However, a sudden heavy cough or sneeze sometimes caught me out till about week 12.
