Thank you for all the past advice you have given to me.
My question is.... I take 1.25 mg Bisoprolol, 1 a day and 2.5 mg Apixaban, 2 a day. I have been taking them ever since the 8th November 2018 and in consequence, I have very sensitive gums and my teeth feel as if they are all going to fall out, my oral hygiene is very good, but it hurts to eat or chew anything, is this normal or unrelated to my medications, can anyone advise me, please?

The medicines you are taking may not be the root cause of your sensitive and your weak teeth.
While I do not know your age, what I would suggest you get one DEXA scan done which would establish whether you have any Low BMD - bone mineral density issue. The test is a low cost test.
In case you have low DEXA score indicating Low BMD, then you need to get treated for Low BMD. Msy be a couple of more blood tests may indicate your blood calcium status, Vitamin D level and thyroid hormone level. Then your doctor would advise to improve your bone density. Your sensitive teeth , plaque , periodontal disease will recover once you treat your Low BMD issue
Thank you . I am 73, with one filling and all my own teeth, I think I was a horse in another life!! The problems I am having with my teeth and gums only became noticible when I began the medication in November. I have 6 monthly check up's and my dentist is very happy with my care of them. Taking the pills is the only thing which has changed.

Have you had a dental checkup since you started your medication? Apixaban can sometimes cause bleeding in various areas including the gums. Things can sometimes change very quickly.

Hi. I'd be interested to know what you discover. I'm having similar issues with my gums and bones. Like you, I've only got one filling and have always taken really good care of my teeth. Now I have some that are wobbly and the thought of losing them really upsets me. I'm only in my thirties! My dentist referred me to the dental hospital and they are baffled as my oral hygiene is good and my gums don't appear to be in bad condition, just disappearing. My bones have receded a lot too, according to X-rays - dentist described them as being between 1/3 and 1/2 of what they used to be.
The dental hospital has been in touch with my cardiologist to ask if they think there's any connection with my heart failure/medication but I don't think they've had any response. I'm going back to the dental hospital this week and I think they are going to cement a wire to the back of my teeth to hold them in place for as long as possible.
Of all my health issues, this is the one I'm finding most upsetting at the moment. I'm spending so much time cleaning between my teeth and along my gum line, every morning and night, all to no avail, it seems... Feels very unfair for the tooth fairies to kick me while I'm down like this! |I keep reminding myself that I should be grateful for what my medication does for my heart (and I am) but the whole thing is very depressing 
Hi, I am on Bisoprolol 2.5mg and I must admit I have had sensitive teeth at times since taking this medication. I use an Oral B 9000 electric toothbrush x 2 daily and inbtween use a medium manual brush. I stopped using mouthwash as I found this made my teeth/gums feel sensitive. I also use Oral B Professional Protection toothpaste in between using Corsodyl both am and pm with the electric toothbrush.
I gargle with warm salt water twice daily (my mum had her own teeth and she did this as long as I can remember) she hardly ever had a cold. Hope this helps.
