Home after mitral valve repair

Back a week now after my mitral valve tissue repair. I cannot praise highly enough everyone at Southampton hospital cardiology unit. They go above and beyond the term ‘care’. All cheerful and happy, even after a 12 hour shift! Even food was good (no full English though ) everything went smoothly and I was in for 10 Days but back home now and walking (slowly) . by the way I checked how much this op would have been privately if I opted to pay- £23000.00! Well done NHS.

I had a mitral valve repair in March. All the tests were done at Southampton General but they sent me to the Spire for the operation. All the care was excellent and I am sticking with SGH even though I live on the Isle of Wight

Hello. Yes, I spoke to the Spire and they offered the op in 2/3 weeks against 3/4 months on the NHS, but the same surgeon, that’s where I got the £23000.00 figure from. Glad you were pleased how it went.

I was lucky in that I had it done on the NHS at the Spire. My husband says that the best thing was the free car parking!
