Before I had my heart valve replacement my mum asked the doctor who was doing it, if my immune system would go down, and he said yeah, I get ill quite a lot and has started to becoming a problem with work etc, would anyone know if I would be able to have anything to make my immune system better?

Did you have a tissue or mechanical valve?

You need to see your GP as you may have an immune system issue unrelated to your heart surgery. A friend was on what appeared to be constant antibiotics with frequent bouts of illness. Once diagnosed he had a total change in medication and now seems free of infection!

I know someone who had a tissue valve and two other valves repaired at 70. They are pretty fit - gardening, decorating, walking to the shops, etc. and escaping colds, etc. You need to talk to your GP - I feel it is unlikely to be related to the valve surgery. Surgery can deplete you - I had an electrolyte imbalance and anemia post bypass. Good luck!
