I've just been diagnosed with hypertension and after tests at my GP proved inconclusive they're giving me an open referral to see a cardiologist which I can use my company private healthcare policy for. However I'm confused as to how to find the right consultant and don't really know where to start. Any advice would be much appreciated

Hi. Here are a few links below that may help you choose. As a principle I would look for consultants who are research active.
NHSSite.
nhs.uk/Service-Search/Hospi...
British cardiovascular society
BHF have a page on how to find a doctor
bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...
I hope this helps you to make a decision
Take care

Have a look at the web site of your local private hospital and see who they have working for them - most will also work in the NHS. The site will usually include a short biography and if they are in any way eminent you should also find them on the internet. Your insurance company might also recommend someone local to you if you are unable to decide which one to go to.
