No sleep: Hi am 5 months post op 5 x... - British Heart Fou...
No sleep
I am 62 years old. I had quadruple bypass surgery in 1997 and I had a mini-stroke in December 2017. I rarely get 7 hours sleep and I wake up 2-3 time a night, usually for a "comfort break". Yesterday I woke up at 3am and didn't get back to sleep. I had a nap in the afternoon. I slept better last night but still felt knackered this morning.
I have been on a plant-based diet for 6 months and I do seem to be sleeping better than I used to. I used to wake up between 3am and 4am nearly every day. This is more of a side-effect of the diet. The biggies are that my BP, cholesterol and pulse have all come down to very good levels.
I doubt that this has helped but at least you know you are not on your own.
Cheers Jimmy looks like I,'ll have to try drinking more wine.Am also 62 Welsh and wild.
Wish that wine would help, but it doesn’t. Alcohol will help you drop off but it’s highly unlikely to keep you asleep - more is the pity. You are not alone, I’m 10 months post triple and wake most nights for maybe 30 minutes to an hour. It’s rare I’ll get 7 hours straight but unusual to be as low as 4hours total. There are many bits of advice out there about how to get a good nights sleep that can and do help but sometimes you just have to accept that a nap on the sofa is just what the doctor ordered.
Cheers stevejb there must be something to help I,'ll have to try and see my G.P.
All the best x
Hi there Ravaging since having my double bypass surgery one year ago tomorrow...(we're going to celebrate..yay..) my sleep pattern has totally changed... adjusting to the medications has for me meant very restless nights with interrupted sleeps and waking right up at the unearthly hour of 4am... however lately I've managed to get 6hours or thereabouts sleep after introducing supper..yes I know this may not be recommended but it seems to help me... I have shredded wheat in warm soya milk about 3 or 4 hours before retiring.
I hope you soon find a solution as sleeping is a huge part of our healing.
Have a great day x
Ta sandrann nice to know I'm not alone
But shredded wheat I don't mind but soya milk urgh rather have another bypass ah ah
Lol Wayne x
This may be a total red herring but have you given any thought to your mattress?
I'm about 10 weeks post CABG x 3 surgery. I was sleeping poorly especially in the first few weeks back at home. I changed my mattress last week (I had intended doing it before my unexpected heart attack and ensuing surgery as it was getting a little old). The first night of using it I slept 7 hours!!!! I felt absolutely chuffed to wake up to a clock showing 6.00am. Daft as it sounds I could barely wait for the following evening's sleep. Again I managed a long uninterrupted night's sleep. Maybe it was just co-incidence but I have to say that my nights of waking 2,3 or even 4 times have gone. For the record I deliberately changed to a soft mattress but I have no idea if its that that has made the difference.
Alec.
Cheers Alec .Have even slept in spare room with same result
Hi Hidden - you may have already tried all of these but here are some tips from the BHF for getting a good night's sleep: bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...
Really hope things improve for you
