Near syncope

I get a lot of extra heartbeats, etc, seemingly caused by hypertension and mild Lvh. I've just had a period of 2-3 weeks of "normal", eg, my heart rate has been up in the 60s-70s, blood pressure good and I haven't felt many extra heart beats, just the odd one or two where it's generally many times a day. Honestly, I've felt great. Now, last couple of days, heart rate dropped back to 47-52 and got the passing out sensations back. Also yesterday my heart rate suddenly started beating really fast for several seconds, on 3 separate occasions while sat at my desk working. One of the times I thought I was going to pass out and felt like my face swelled up and hot. Checked my blood pressure at night and it was fine. What's going on?

Report this to your physician. There are many different heart arrhythmias. Some benign, some not.

It’s an ongoing thing. I’m waiting for a cardiologist appt. it’s such a complex subject.

Agreed. Two weeks ago I started have a very irregular heart rate. On average over a 60 second period, it was in the 60s, but for any 6 second interval the rate was low 50s to 100. My cardiologist had me double up on my dose of atenolol (25 mg 2x instead of 1x), and after about 12 days it went back to normal. No extra beats and no longer than normal period between beats.

It “should” be ok. My last echo showed structure was sound and pumping well but there is still a lot “going on”. Ie beats, near syncope, uncomfortable chest while walking, etc. Just seem to be adding to the list. My GP seemed surprised it was still as bad as before I started amlopidine and got my BP back to normal.

Hi, yes it’s important that you go back to your doctor as soon as possible and tell them about the symptoms you have been experiencing. They will want to assess you and may suggest to do a 24 or 48 ECG monitor to analyse your heart rate and rhythm. You say that you have been referred to a cardiologist, so discuss with your doctor when you might expect to be seen by them, and if any action needs to be taken beforehand. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes, June

Thanks June. The cardio appt has been requested, I was told, by my GP reception but heard nothing yet. Think it was a few weeks ago now. I’m guessing it’ll be 6 weeks at least. I’m used to it now.
