Help I'm new to this and have got myself into a bit of a state!

Went to the Doctors 2 weeks ago cos was having strange fluttering in chest and palpitations. Had an ECG which doc said wasn't the best but not the worst he had seen. Waiting to see cardiologist in 4 weeks time. In the meantime been out on 5 mg bisoprolol and I think the cure is worse than the problem! Feel really poorly. Exhausted all the time, stomach pain and diarrhoea. Been up all night with diarrhoea and anxiety.

Please help. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Purpletara,

You have got yourself in a vicious circle, although Bisoprolol has side affects when you initially start them so does anxiety.

I know so many people that when they get anxious they can’t get off the toilet.

Firstly if the doctor had seen something on the ECG that was life threatening you would be in hospital right now. It may be just some ectopic’s (extra beats) or an arrhythmia both of which can be medicated, maybe bisoprolol isn’t right for you, it definitely wasn’t for me! Pop back to your doctor and see if he can try you on something else until you see the cardiologist and please try to keep calm, it will only make you feel worse, distract yourself as much as possible. Your in good hands and your in the system now.

Keep your chin up, there’s loads of us, your not on your own 🙂

Thank you so much for your reply and yes, I do think anxiety isn't helping my symptoms. Been for a walk with my dog and feel better for it. Will get doctors appointment and voice my concerns. Thank you so much for your kind words - I'm pleased i found this forum and to know I'm not on my own.

Go back and see your GP. Sounds like you are suffering the side effects of bisoprolol and changing to a different drug might be beneficial. Don’t suffer in silence, the drugs should make you feel better not worse!

Hi. Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

Have got a doctor's appointment this morning. Couldn't take the side effects any longer! Hopefully doc will change the drug or lower the dosage. Fingers crossed!

Hello. I was diagnosed with a faulty mitral valve in hospital and was prescribed 5mg of Bisoprolol daily. My blood pressure dropped through the floor and I refused to take it. They reduced the dose to 2.5mg per day, but now (after 4 weeks) I suffer from very painful legs/ankles/feet. Tiredness and lethargy. Going back to GP to be taken off this medication. NHS site shows many people suffering same symptoms, while others can take 10mg daily with no problems. Obviously affects people differently.

Hi. Doctor has now reduced my bisoprolol to 2.5 mg daily and I don't feel I can live with this. Tiredness is my main problem too. I used to be always on the go and have now turned into a couch potato!

Have only been on the lowered dose since Wednesday so keeping fingers crossed it will improve - if not, like you, I'm going to ask to change to another beta blocker.

Hope you get sorted.

Take care.

I had my Bisoporol changed - take 1.25 in the morning and late evening, instead of the 2.50 dose in one go. Not as tired and none of the heavy legs feeling.
