Hi my name is Lisa and I am currently in Lanzarote with my 69 year old mother who had heart attack on her first day. She was in intensive care for 48 hrs and needs a stent. She is short of breath sometimes and has pain in one leg. She is up walking about short distances in the hospital and is waiting for surgery in grand canary’s. Anyone have any info on having stent please. They have said bottom of heart is damaged and that she has ischaemic heart disease. Thanks

Hi, sorry to hear about your Mum, she's in hospital so in good care. I had a similar experience, my husband had heart attack in Portugal 7 weeks ago resulting in a stent being fitted, the forums here were really useful to read, and I would recommend ringing the cardio nurses at BHF, when you are not in your own country we found them very helpful to understand what advice etc would be given if you were.
Also after the surgery we were not allowed to fly for 15 days, talk to your travel insurance company asap, they will also help, we talked to nurses there too, as well as our GP in UK. The travel ins company arranged special assistance with the flights and taxi home from airport, it was quite a tiring journey but everyone very helpful.
Get copies of all the notes to bring home. We got into the cardio rehab system easily for recovery and support, but are still waiting to see a UK consultant.
The stent op was really easy, 20 / 30 mins under local anaesthetic, they even gave us a DVD to bring home for dr's here!
Good luck, I hope everything goes well. Jo
