I am 37 and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy last thursday. I have started 2 lots of meds today and then in 6mths they will decide whether i need a pacemaker and defibrillator.
I’m trying my best to stay positive as i struggle with depression, but its a lot to take on board x
Keep in mind that any heart diagnosis brings with it a degree of depression and anxiety. I find that fact makes it easier to handle. At least it isn’t your mind which is making you feel down, but an outside force.
I too have cardiomyopathy but they aren’t too keen to give me a pacemaker in the meantime because of other medical issues, and I’m on the highest dosage of meds that I can be, so it’s just a waiting game to see what the medical profession can come up with.
I was quite dispirited at first as I had been very active and felt it was the “beginning of the end”, but now that my meds have been sorted out I feel great, and almost back to my old self, in fact probably healthier since I’m more aware of my lifestyle choices.
All the very best, and don’t hesitate to come on here if you have any worries or fears. They’re great at getting things in perspective. 😀
Hi - My sister has cardiomyopathy, afib and chf. She is on life saving meds and she does very well! The meds stabilized her and she has almost a normal life. I can’t tell that she has this going on 99% of the time. The hot, humid weather affects her more, but otherwise no one would ever know she has this condition. Don’t get too anxiety ridden over it. Just picture yourself maintaining your health with the great meds they have for us today!
