I had one on each eyelid and one below my right eye. They are disappearing as my cholesterol level is coming down. I only have the one on my right eyelid now and that is smaller than it was.

I am not a doctor but you could try reducing the amount of cholesterol you consume. Speak to your GP or contact BHF nurses about this if you want expert opinion or clarification.

I had mine from my 30s and I'm now 62. I have read Michael's reply below and if they bother you that much I would consider the laser surgery, if you can afford it.

I have got the impression, maybe incorrectly, that the issues related to subsequent surgery are not always fully explained when people are choosing between mechanical and tissue valves. Surgical removal is not an option for you so do not even consider it. As you have probably seen lasers are being used more frequently by the medical profession from eyesight correction (although the effects of ageing continue) to the treatment of fungal nails. Laser treatment is available for cholesterol spots so it may be worth researching it and running it past your cardiologist if it seems a possibility. I doubt it will be available on the NHS.

No I didn’t know about lasers , did speak to my cardiologist as I need tummy tuck ( I lost ten stone ) but that not possible , they didn’t explain that haveing a mechanical valve would prevent any surgery that’s not functional . Before surgery I have to come off warfrain for four days switch to injection and that whilst operating shouldn’t be off heparin pump for more than 4 hours .

I was just told oh take a tablet once a day and have blood test once a month !

I’m a retired advance nurse practitioner ,when I had my surgery I would say that cognitively I was a bit knocked off . As ii was critical very suddenly so didn’t do enough research myself , just informed as I was 57 mechanical better as I wouldn’t need surgery again ( heart ) , II also have terrible problems with my INR it’s very fragile swing from 5/6 to 2.4 over night .
