I am in a very similar situation and also want to get fit for surgery. I’m interested to know what you’re doing to achieve that but also interested to know how yours was found.
Hi Vinc best prep you can do is strengthen your core, as you can’t use your arms for a good 4 wks so practise getting up from chair, bed, loo, etc now, it will be a god send. Moisturiser your chest area to make the skin supple and bio oil for after the op. Had my AVR done 9 months ago. Had op 3/8/17 back at work 2/11/17dont rush listen to your body , your a few years younger than me so should sail through.
It’s not as scary as you imagine. Take care keep us updated Kaz ❤️💕💖
some good tips to work on i may have stopped working to early but i work in events so it could be a health and safety issue to be on site knowing about my condition now
I have talked to a few people and the best scenario after major heart surgery is:-
i) Some p/t work from home after 4 weeks
ii) P/t in the office from 6 weeks - if passed fit to drive. My surgeon told me this would be for shorter journeys only not field service or length and breath of England. Only very light lifting.
iii) Full time work but not being silly (e.g. 200 mile drives/heavy lifts/heavy physical work) after 12 weeks
iv) 6 - 12 months back to normal if no other issues
This is the wrost my heart condition as made me so in the same situation but I have unusual tiredness where my body is in its own timing it feel like I’m kinda Jetlaged all the time but not as bad as jetlag.
Just completed my first week post AVR surgery. Very low energy and therefore activity levels. Establishing a pain management regime that ensures I get healing sleep. My body is demanding a lot of sleep, so I roll with it. Any exertion demands recovery so very much a short roller coaster. It has to get worse before it gets better. All I'm saying is please don't expect any early signs of regeneration.
It will come but only when your body completes its repair regime, which will happen - slowly.
