Very worried daughter

Hi everyone,

My dad was diagnosed with LVHF and right sided weakness with pulmonary oedema.

This has come to a major shock. I am a Midwife and nurse by profession but I can’t rationalise this or put my healthcare brain on.

They have started him on fluzomide to get rid of the lung fluid and then want to start him on medication for the left and fit a pace maker on the right.... he is only 60years old and is a good weight, non smoker, social drinker and has type 2 diabetes!

I need reassurance my dad will make it through this. I feel like I’m being robbed of time with him! We have so much to do together like walk me down the isle next year and I’m in bits with anxiety that he won’t make it!

Any comments would be warmly welcomed.

Hello Kate.

Given your profession, you know the risks here, it really doesn’t need me to tell you them. Cardiac surgery carries risks but read through the posts here and you will see many from people who have been through what your father is going through and you will also see they still have a good life. Your anxiety is entirely ‘normal’, but my telling you that probably isn’t helping. Try talking to a counsellor - talking to someone detached can be very helpful. Try to stay calm, his diagnosis , whilst very upsetting to you, and no doubt to him also, is far from terminal.
