Rushed into hospital with a heart attack 5 days ago. Had an angioplasty and now feeling a lot better. Really looking forward to losing a little weight, with help, and enjoying a healthy diet.

I have to do this for the special people in my life and our two fur babies, Jess and Rosie and also to compliment the fantastic work done by the doctors, nurses and support staff of the North Midland University Hospital at Stoke.

Wishing you all the best in your return to health and well-being. I had heart attack NoV 16 and have been similarly motivated by my family to regain fitness etc.

Make use of the cardiac rehab services and just plug away - you will get there!

Don’t be afraid to ask questions - there is a wealth of experience on this site and people are more than happy to help.

Thanks for your comments. I will certainly be using the rehab services, I have already been interviewed and just a/w an appointment date.

My biggest problem at the moment is the mental issues. I can be flying high one minute and the next the tears come on and I feel so down and alone. I have a good family around me, an excellent, supportive Wife and a good employer so I am hoping to ride out these negative feelings and get on with life.

I think the shock of an enexpected incident hits us all and is probably the most difficult aspect to deal with. Unfortunately it is probably also the most difficult to advise on for the non professional as we are all so different!

You have only had a week take in a massive amount of information etc. so to be perfectly honest I would say you are right where all of us were at the same time.

I am reluctant to offer direct advice, I am totaly unqualified to do so, but just try all you can to stay positive.

Hi there and thank you you for the kind thoughts. I have done something similar, My Wife joined Slimming World recently and I am now following her programme. The weight is already moving in the right direction, not fast but moving. I love my change in diet and have easily adapted with no cravings for cake, biscuits and pastries which have been my downfall in the past.

Losing weight is one of the 'joys' of going through all of this pain and anguish, its just a shame it took most of us to get really ill before we did anything much about it!

I would add just one thing to your rationale for getting better - you might have in your mind that you are doing this for others, but fundamentally, you are doing all of this for you! I know that sounds selfish, but when it comes down to it it will be you who will make the decisions on what is right for you as far as weight, diet, exercise is concerned. You are only good to everyone else if you are well!

Good luck with the recovery. Try not to over do things - it will be a temptation - but keep at it. The end results are worth the effort.
