My 83yr old father has just had a pacemaker fitted. Is there a special diet that could be beneficial?

Hi Jenniewiz , the BHF has information on healthy eating to keep cholesterol and weight down: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/pre...

You can also get in touch with our cardiac nurses for some advice on this: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/how...

Hope this helps Jennie.

Think you just need a healthy diet plenty of fruit and veg maybe low fat but at his age I would say anything he wants in moderation. I believe in quality of life over quantity. My mum was told not to eat all kinds of things she loved at about 70 due to heart valve replacement and diabetes. She used to ask for things all the time or was miserable she lasted until 88 and would have been 92 today. I never had any issue about allowing bad foods as she was happy scoffing them. Go with common sense
