Hi

I have a weak heart, may need an ID. Does anyone know from experience if thing will strengthen my heart or is it just for decoration. I assume i will still be on tablets, which I have got used to.

Thank you

Hello - sorry to hear about your heart condition. You can read a little more about having an ICD here: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/tre... and you can also download or order a hard copy of our booklet for free.

Having an ICD to help support your heart muscle usually means you're having a biventricular ICD, also known as a CRT-D. This is designed to help the bottom chambers of your heart to beat together and produce a better output of blood, and usually helps relieve the symptoms of heart failure such as breathlessness and fluid retention.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like to chat to one of our helpline nurses in a little more detail please call 0300 330 3311 Monday to Friday 9-5pm.

Take care,

Chris

Thanks Chris,

If it does what you say it might be a good thing to have. I'll be seeing one of the consultants in a month or so. In the meantime I'll read up on it.

Thanks again
