I've suffered with very frequent heart palpitations for the last 2 years, which isn't too serious compared to most heart conditions, but can be very distressing . I've had every cardiac test going and my cardiologist can't find anything wrong. So I'm now on Carvedilol (beta blocker) and Ramipril as I now have high blood pressure. I'm due another cardiac MRI in a few weeks to see if there have been any changes over the last year. There is a possibility of dilated cardiomyopathy. I would love to connect with others who have similar problems....it kind of drives you crazy sometimes, when these irregular heartbeats won't stop, and sometimes keeps me awake at night.

Hello everyone
Hi back in February I kept getting wakened at night with, palpitations but it seemed more a thumping noise, I thought it was stress, but to cut a very long story short, it was heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy with left ventricular failure, having had no previous problems,I was in total shock, still am! I got the full MOT of heart tests and I am on ramipril, bisoprolol, spirolactane and ferusomide, great hmm, like yourself I would like to contact others in the same position as I am still unsure what the future holds, I am 58 just now, I have read as much as possible about it, but the docs said it's quite rare and just to keep taking the meds, which have def not made me feel any better, but mabe doing some good??
Char
Hi Chaz,
That all sounds pretty scary stuff but at least you have a diagnosis and I'm sure the meds are helping. I can't tolerate Bisoprolol, it makes me so tired and weak. That's why I take Carvedilol, it seems to suit me better. I'm hoping my next MRI will give some kind of definite answer as to what's going on. It will confirm whether or not I'm in the early stages of dilated cardiomyopathy or not....hopefully not! My heart function is at the low end of the normal scale. I've been getting more and more palpitations recently. They did almost stop at the beginning of the year for a while, which was lovely. I ended up in A & E the other week because the palpitations got so bad and I ended up with chest pain as well. I was monitored then sent home as there was nothing serious going on. Anyway, I wish you well, and I suppose you just have to keep on taking the tablets . I'm about to turn 52 by the way, Sara ❤️
Hi I hope the mri comes up with a result, there is nothing worse than not knowing for sure what it is, I have an appointment with my heart nurse on Friday, I will say again about the bisoprolol and mabe I could try something else tc x
Good luck on Friday, let me know how you get on x
I was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy earlier this year. It's fine. Honestly. You just have to adjust your life and outlook and you become an expert at your blood pressure! Also, you never forget your medication as it would obviously have consequences.
Since being diagnosed, I feel so much better which means that I was feeling pretty rubbish before!
Life's about adapting and embracing and this has certainly made me do that! Ask about Entresto - a new drug which seems to be working well with me.
Hello, thanks for your reply. I’ve moved to Scotland now and the cardiologist here has given me a definite diagnosis of Dilated Cardiomyopathy. So now I know what I’m dealing with and I’ll just keep taking the meds and enjoying life as best as I can. I’ll invesrigate the drug you mentioned. Thanks again, Sara
