🤔 I was referred back to general counselling after my Dads' death. It helped me to sort out all of the confused feeling I had, especially as it was so sudden and at only 56 I had been working on my own various issues with a view to going to see him and my Mum as although we were in touch digitally I hadn't seen my Dad since I was 18 and missed him dreadfully.
I have had previously several rounds of CBT online, the NHS Beating the Blues programme. It is helpful although it was only really when I had the realisation that this was a tool that I could use to fix myself, that there wasn't really anyone sitting behind the curtain there to help me (this hit me hard when I ran out of room to complete my feelings in a text box. From that point on I just put a full stop and thought through my feelings instead). Some of the exercises were pivotal in my developing tools to help myself out of negative thoughts and rebuilding my sense of self.
I do prefer one to one counselling and in total I've had
3 rounds of one to one counselling at at least 9wks each, one was longer but not sure how much more
3 rounds of online cbt (the 3rd was an open ended access to the programme)
1 round of one to one CBT which I think was about 7wks
