I had something which sounds very similar and it was called Occiptial neuralgia and I couldnt bare the pain at back of head. Used pain killers and slept on other side.

What I do is take a large fizzy drink bottle (2ltr ?)

Fill it with very cold water and sit back in a comfy chair semi reclined so that you can prop the bottle length ways across the nape of your neck. I usually roll it in a thin tea towel for comfort.

Relax as long as you can in this position and it seems to cool the area down and bring some relief together with your favourite choice of painkiller.

Hope that helps hun.

Big hugs xx

Hi leopard,

I had similar but one swollen lymph node was on top of head and one at base of skull. I could not get to sleep with it. Went to A&E but it got trivialised by triage. So 5 hrs later went home, as never got to see a Dr.

Turned out there was a tiny skin infection on top of scalp where my hair-clip had broken the skin. I had lymphadenitis & cellulitis and needed a course of antibiotics.

My Dermy reckons it was just bad luck, but now I reckon it was part of Behcet's. I don't have a diagnosis yet. I seem prone to folliculitis (?Pseudofolliculitis), boils & infected eczema & other skin problems.

The nurse at the hospital gave me 2 Paracetamol & that masked my symptoms so I felt a bit better.

Hi, I'm having a flare at the moment too. Seems like swollen glands are all part of the norm for me when things go wrong. I have swollen glands in neck, arm pits and groin. Now much fun I know with everything else going on. I ended up in hospital last week but am home now and resting, resting and more resting. Hang on in there Hun. I'm thanking regular paracetamol and Tramadol as advised by hospital along with normal meds till things settle. C x
