We don't know enough about your situation. Are you on contraception ? Have you had any new sexual partners ? Smears up to date ? medical problems ?
I have the coil no new sexual partner smears all up to date
and what age are you ?
51
Ok so the hormone levels in the coil will be getting lower and may not therefore completely control unscheduled bleeding. However in women over 40 with unscheduled bleeding , the usual recommendation is to consider sampling the lining of the womb ( endometrial biopsy ) and also consider an ultrasound of the uterus. Initially , you should have a vaginal examination to ensure the IUS is still in place - rarely, it can be expelled with heavy bleeding. So if the bleeding continues either go back to the GP , or attend a reproductive health unit.
