Hi ladies,

Hope you and your babies / pregnancies are all doing well.

I was just wondering if anyone had gestational diabetes? I was diagnosed 3 weeks ago, and despite being very strict with my diet, this week my after breakfast sugars have crept up and I need to start metformin. I feel so sad about this and disappointed in my body.

If there’s anyone who has had it who can give me any moral support i’d really appreciate it. Feeling pretty low today xx

Hi

Yes diagnosed 7 weeks ago and only just got my fasting numbers under control.

If you are on Facebook there is a good site called gestational diabetes which is really helpful and other members help each other.

It took me a long time to get my head around it not being my fault but after changing diet and still struggling I finally accepted i couldn't change anything more.

I'm currently on 22 units of insulin at night and 2 metformin and then 1 metformin in the morning.

Good luck x

Thank you. Just had a look! I dont want to join as havent announced on social media we’re expecting, only a handful of people know so dont want to make it obvious.

I’m having a bit of a down day today as despite diet controlling well for the past 2 weeks, all of my sugars have been through the roof today 😭 just sitting here feeling really hard done by.

Have they mentioned anything about you being induced early? xx

Hi

I'm 35 weeks and hardly anyone knows unless they see me as in the last couple of weeks in the words of my husband I look like a space hopper.

I'm not one for putting things on Facebook and it is a closed group.

Yes I will be being induced likely at 38 weeks all being well as not only GD but IVF pregnancy and my age 41.

They are pushing towards c section also to control sugars and also baby is currently breech.

I felt in the beginning the same, I hardly ate anything as didn't know what to eat as everything seemed to make it high and I was advised to have full fat yoghurts, butter etc and protein but I'm also dairy allergic so felt useless and lost 1/2 stone in 2 weeks. I've not put anything on since. Currently only 6 pounds heavier than pre pregnancy.

As time has gone on I've settled in to more of a routine with my foods, eggs became a saviour but also hate the look of them now lol.

Chicken, high protein bread 400g loaf. Pepperami, nuts etc..

Good luck and il try and help where I can but do not blame yourself xx

You have been brill thank you so much! Ive joined the group and its brimming with information so really helpful.

I am also an ivf pregnancy (i’m 28) and was told pre GD that i’d be induced at 40 weeks anyway so i’m wondering if it may be a little earlier now. Possibly too early to tell as i’m only 29 weeks.

I had a private scan yesterday and baby is breech, i know there’s plenty of time for him to move round but I feel as though i’m heading down a similar road to you.

Thank you again, and best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy xx

Hi there sunshine,

I'm in the same boat as you, diagnosed at 24 weeks and tried diet control for 2 weeks, followed by Metformin for the past 2 weeks. Unfortunately, my fasting sugars are still not controlled despite eating healthy and exercising 4-5 times a week. I've always gone to the gym so that part isn't new, it still feels like a punch in the gut not having control over it.

I literally just came across your post after spending past 2 hours disappointed at the reading after I had 3 slizes of jackfruit. My sugars went sky high.

The diabetes educator told me not to avoid fruits or carbs but honestly it's impossible. I went into ketosis 2 weeks ago trying to control my sugars and reducing carbs.... according to the food plan they gave me. They told me to more carbs!

I'm still battling with acceptance and have been super emotional about it. The doctor is starting me on insulin next week if the fasting numbers remain high.

Praying for you that things calm down. Thankfully not many weeks left in the pregnancy! And I hope it never resurfaces again.

I'm going to look for that Facebook support group.

Hey,

Ahh its so frustrating isnt it when you’re trying your hardest but feeling like its not worth it 😔 ive actually gone the other way where my sugars are all ‘normal’ despite me eating more carb than i have done the past 2 weeks when they were running high! I’m hoping all is fine, its just weird!

I was the same as you i clinic last week, told i had ketones in my urine and to eat more carb but last week i only had to sniff a carb and I was at least 8! Getting the balance right is so tricky.

Defo join the facebook group! I’ve found it so helpful! Good luck ☺️ not long now xx
