Weaning and bowel habits! 😳

Hello ladies,

Firstly, I hope you and your families are all keeping safe and well in these crazy times? Lockdown is sending my slightly stir crazy now but the sun is shining so I can’t complain!

I started weaning Ollie around a month ago starting with one meal a day for a week, then moved to 2 a day and then once we got to 4 weeks, I’ve just started with 3 meals a day. All meals are purées as although he is 8 months old, due to his prematurity, developmentally, he is 5 and a half months old so not brave enough to do BLW. When you started weaning your bubbas, did their bowel habits change a lot? Ollie has always had frequent poos (and is a strainer) and up until yesterday, they have been fine. But, a day after we started him in 3 meals a day, all of his poos are really solid and dry???? He has had 4 in 24 hours to which he strains but showing no signs of pain. Is this quite normal? My head tells me it probably is but we had quite a scare when he was in NICU regarding his bowels and having suspected NEC so I am scarred when it comes to his bowel habits!! 🙈

He is formula fed now and has lots of wet nappies.

Thank you xx

Oh, sounds like it's going well then? Hope he's loving it 😋

What you've described sounds pretty normal here too. I've also noticed that now she can poo any time, while before it was always during or shortly after feeds. So we have to keep an eye on her for signs. It's quite obvious when she's doing one, she gets a certain look on her face, but if we don't happen to be watching we can miss it. 'Fortunately' there's now the smell that usually alerts us before too long. Has Ollie turned into a little stink pot? Millie's are atrocious sometimes!!

I think he is enjoying it??!! Some days are better then others but that’s pretty standard with everything!

Ollie is a strainer so we know when he is going!! 😂🙈 Since starting solids his face goes red and he is really trying, I feel for him as it looks so hard!!

How is Millie getting on with weaning now? Hoping she is in full swing! Xx

Oh bless him

Millie's doing alright. Discovered she loves porridge so she has that for tea every night and we try out new things and finger foods at lunchtimes. Managed to reduce expressing to 3 times/day too so things are getting easier there xxx

Well done on getting down to expressing 3 times a day! I found it so much easier by that point and would have kept going had my supply kept up at a normal rate. I had an Elvie pump which was great when I was doing it frequently but wasn’t the best at getting milk out.

Ollie loves porridge which is great as it’s my fav breakfast! Really want to try him with finger food but I don’t think he is ready yet. Xx
