Hi there everyone, I am new on here and joined in the hope of finding some advice/ help in relation to supporting my 25 year old Son. At age 9 he was diagnosed with ADHD, at 15 - ASD and age 18 -was sectioned/ detained under the MHA; as developed Psychosis and soon after admission, was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder.

He remained under section/ inpatient for 3 years and had a further admission / S3 MHA and detained for a further year.

He has had a few short-term admissions to local acute ward/ MH Hosp.

It is such a complex mix, with numerous ‘overlapping symptoms’ etc - but main difficulty affecting him is the constant anxiety.

He has very poor social skills and poor perception of peoples intentions/ likely consequences.

This has led him toward ‘poor peer groups’ and involved with the CJS, for numerous ‘offences’ not serious, but repetitive.

This has been owing to him becoming a ‘prolific gambler’ (ie: fixed odds betting terminals /Roulette).

This has totally ruined his life chances so far and broken down family relationships.

To date, have found no appropriate help/ support. It’s a total disaster!

Maybe I will find some useful tips on here?

I think you are all doing such a great job, dealing with the challenges and ordeals, us parents face - trying to cope/ finding support!

I got involved in thrive at Battersea Park but if you could find this or similar programme it might help. Gardening or horticulture course helped because builds your confidence and gives you references. It is for people with mental health disorder or autism or suffering from traumatic event etc. I was in similar position to your son and really did me good
