Hi, my physio has given me ones to strengthen my legs and ankles, upper core muscle exercises which we've purchased a 'wobble cushion' for which is quite good and to use an exercise bike. What ones have you been given?

Hello "Helen92",

my physio makes me do exercises following the "Bobath Concept"

---------->

The Bobath Concept is a problem solving approach to the assessment and treatment of individuals with disturbances of function, movement and postural control due to a lesion of the central nervous system. This approach to the rehabilitation of adults with central nervous system pathology originated in the work of Berta and Karel Bobath and has evolved over more than half a century.

Have just got a gym ball now to practise balance.Trying to not rely on props so much.Have got to get the balance right with safety and building up core strength.Not easy.Insisted on a neurophysiotherapist.

I've just been to my 2nd session of Pilates in order to strengthen core muscles

and hopefully help balance. I can do the exercises without much difficulty physically

but the sensation of nausea is distracting. The teacher is very helpful, substituting

movements specifically for me. I don't do any bending down or head movements,

so I was surprised today when lying and exercising brought on nausea.

Hello "wobbly".

a friend has a "Pilates"-studio.

As Katie knows, of course, that I´m suffering from SCA

she flatly refused to have me in one of her courses..

Would you agree, Harry ?

Hi Jurgen

As you know I fully support any level of exercise for people with ataxia, as long as it is suitable for their ability. I have limited knowledge of what Pilates involves but if you are able to do it and most importantly you feel safe doing it, then you should. I would advise being up front with the teacher however about having ataxia and how it affects you.
