Hello "laddy"

of course, the "Let's Go Indoor Rollator" ( L 199,-- new ) is VERY expensive.-

That´s why I´ve bought my 2nd one ( for upstairs ) via Internet and it cost

me L 90-- only

elderluxe.com/store/item.as...

But, you can´t move around the house with an outdoor rollator, can you ?

That´s why quite a few people I know have an outdoor rollator only - and risk

falling when moving say from the kitchen to the toilet

Hi,

I had a rollator.

As my illness progressed, I could only walk slowly and not without an aid.

I had a 4 wheel rollator, eventually I could not use it (I was too slow). What I have are 2 x scooters. One for driving around on the pavements. The other is small and we bought a modified VW Sharan (off EBAY) that carries it around. If I go out in the car it's with me.

My sister is a very kind person and she thought it would be a help if I had the 4 wheeled grannies trolley she found in a charity shop. I modified it i.e. bought a drinks holder they use on wheelchairs. I use it indoors. Its Great!

I always use a wall to stop it (or arcitrave) and leave it there. I know it will have limited movement when I use it again. But it enables me to move thing's and drink's around and stop easily. A granny troley can be bought cheaply in a charity shop (I've seen them).

At the moment moving from room to room, exercises my legs. In the future when my legs stop completely, I thought I may buy a 3rd scooter for indoors, again off EBAY. Something very cheap! Remember, if you use a 'grannie trolley', force you're weight down evenly on the handles and try and lean forward.

I do have a wheelchair, I find it very restricting. Due to Back problem when folded, my wiife can't lift it and put in a boot. My outdoor scooter carries my collapsible walker. Between a gadget on the back supplied by the scooter seller and a mate with industrial 'Velcro' and glue, I carry it about easily!

A rollator is OK if you are able to walk.

I have just completed the Wheely, Wobbly Bridges Walk for Ataxia UK in London last Sunday, 6.5 miles! Only made possible because of my 'supa-dupa 4 wheeled rollator', it donesn't see daylight very often (hiding away in a cupboard) however, this occasion warrented it. I managed to walk most of the way, propelled by adreneline and commitment of the others around me. However, when i was unable to go any further, this rollator has a seat, foot & back rest so means I can be pushed, untill I get my breath/strength back, then I was off again. Please visit justgiving.com/melanie-jessica for photos of me and the rollator in action!

A consultant said to me many years ago, when I was recently diagnosed with Ataxia - "Use it or loose it" and I intend to use it all up untill there is only emergency power left, no matter how slow I walk, what's the rush?... I'll get there, and I am worth waiting for!! As long as I am able to put one foot in front of the other, I will walk whenever possible and I also try to excercise regulary (swimming, excercise bike, pilates) to keep the muscles working! I was convinced by someone a few years ago that I should be using a wheelchair, I did but since he left my life I haven't and it was hard work to 'banish the chair' but I'm so glad I did! Independence is everything, hold onto it as long as you can!

I copied this, from Fight Ataxia on Facebook, it is advice given to someone just diagnosed with SCA

Get a 3 wheel bike, swim, stretch, walk as much as possible. Modify to a much healthier diet. The degree of getting worse depends on you. You have the ability to delay your decline. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Sooo... true, not easy to stick to, but worth it?

PS. my rollater cost about £150. a good buy? I think so...
