Hi, just wondered if anyone else is on a Paleo diet to try and reduce the ataxia symptoms?

Hi Penelope,I don't do a strict Paleo or Keto diet but I do try and follow it's principles as set out in 'The Wahls Protocol,' and 'The Wahls Protocol Cooking for life'. Although her original focus was around MS it relates to the mitochondria....so anything that improves the health of this can't be bad! I do feel better generally when I eat well and detox with these recipes.

Hope that helps?

Yes the Wahl Protocol is inspiring. I sort of follow that too. MS has lots of good exercises on YouTube too. Just do the ones that suit me. Over the years I have found what is best to keep me on track diet wise, exercises and supplements too at the same time as trying to keep the ataxia in check. The biggest thing for me is definitely GF, DF, grain free too while avoiding processed food.

We have to do these things to help ourselves as most doctors do not know anything about ataxia.

Take care.

Hi Patsy. My last MRI showed an improvement in the cerebellum so I am interested if anyone else has found this.

Hi Barry. Now I am under the care of Professor H at Sheffield so annually. But it is all about interpretation of results and if that specialist or neurologist has the skill to see atrophy of the cerebellum. Some don't so even if you ate having MRIs regularly then signs of ataxia and what type can be missed. Had first MRI in 2015. Ataxia not picked up even though it was there, wasn't for a futher 6 years that it was officially confirmed and it took Sheffield to say what type at MRI number 4 so yes I feel let down by so called specialists. Sheffield and UCLH are the best clinics to be looked after so try and get referred to one of these. And Oxford is good too.

Nope, but I intermittent fast every day with a daily exercise routine along with breathing exercises before getting out of bed. I believe it has helped immensely. Oh, and cold showers. Look up the Wim Hof method if interested. Best of luck to all.

Does using cold wash to inner arms in shower count! A full cold shower is a step to far for me. But am really glad it works for you. That regime I think comes under functional medicine.

Take care.
