The Royal Hallamshire hosts one of the 3 Specialist Ataxia Centres in the UK. It has 3 neurologists and two ataxia nurses, and a huge number of patients who report that the service is excellent.

I have been referred for a 2nd opinion, and just wondered what to expect. I have cerebellar ataxia-possibly autoimmune. I’ve just had Plex with inconclusive results.

I think you might expect to have a few tests!! Prof Marios Hadjivassiliou is an expert on autoimmune so the clinic has particular skill in this area.

Thank you. I’ll be prepared, just in case.

hi - I was referred by my GP last November 2022 and am still waiting for an appointment. I was diagnosed in 2011 and go to UCLH in London but was told they couldnt refer me! Both my mother and my maternal grandfather had diagnosed autoimmune diseases so I am keen to go to Sheffield

Contact your GP to see if they can chase it? No idea what the waiting times are and they are very busy but a year seems a long time?
