Hi 7151

I fall asleep sometimes but I’m aware that I’m going to sleep the only time that has happened to me is I was put on a medication to help with stiff legs but just made me fall sleep very quickly maybe have I think if you have changed meds. If it continues maybe have a word with your GP but as far as I know it’s not a normal condition related to ataxia

Take care my friend 😊

That’s scary! So make sure you’re ok to drive before getting behind the wheel. Not worth the risk.

You stay safe my dear friend 😳

Hello my friend

I think when you have ataxia you can expect anything as it involves the brain and the central nervous system so the sky’s the limit so could be what is causing your sudden sleep.

You done well to drive straight after the accident but please be careful 😐

You take care my friend and say ALIVE.

Yes, this has been happening to me for many years. I think it's due to coping with Ataxia. X

A cpac machine is a portable ventilator that supplies air to the lungs when you stop breathing with sleep apnea.I use it on a night for bed. My life improved 100/ when I was diagnosed .speak to your gp they can refer you to a sleep clinic to find out what’s going on .

My husband had sleep apnea and used to fall asleep mid sentence when he was talking, just would fall asleep in a few seconds and could not stop himself. He has not got ataxia! At the local hospital and the sleep clinic he got a cpac machine which keeps the airways open. He took a while to get used to wearing the mask but hasn't looked back. He rarely falls asleep now and has much more energy.

Ataxia causes fatigue, so tired probably from the effort involved physically and mentally from keeping up and balanced, but this is quite different from the tiredness felt with sleep apnea.

I apologise for being personal but do you snore? My husband was told to lose weight which can help significantly.

Driving can be comprimised too.

Take care and hope you find a solution soon.
