Hi has anyone had issues with DVLA refusing to renew there license? I have arsacs disease but late onset. I’m 36 and depend on crutches when walking, otherwise I’m fit and healthy.
DVLA Has Refused License : Hi has anyone had... - Ataxia UK
DVLA Has Refused License
I sent the form to them in May this year, heard back from them in July (acknowledging what I sent, plus asking me to fill in a second form specific to double vision), and then I haven't heard from them since - I also checked with the a neurologist at the London Ataxia Centre when I went for a check up in October. It's frustrating, as I have no idea what their process is!
I assume I am fine to drive, no one has told me otherwise. I feel perfectly fine driving!
I also have an autosomal recessive ataxia (specifically SYNE1-related spinocerebellar ataxia (ARCA8)), age 30.
I was diagnosed with Type 2, so notified them, and had to attend my GP for a "chat". He was ok, and after a few weeks I was issued another 3 year medical License. I had 3 years previously disclosed I had Ataxia. So no problems, even tho I have not driven in 2 years, as my partner does all the driving
I’ve had a 3yr renewable licence since the late 1990s. Each time I renew it takes ages with forms going back and forth, and prolonged delays while they contact my GP and Neurologist. The DVLA are very strict, no matter how confident you feel about driving, they need a Neurologist’s opinion. And in some cases they require a specific eye test, or a driving assessment at a specialist centre.
