People do mention bowel problems, this could be related to inactivity, not staying hydrated, or not eating enough roughage. All of these should be considered before seeking advice.

Gastric reflux is also mentioned, I have this myself..

Some people have specific swallowing issues that can’t be resolved by general advice from a Speech and Language Team (SALT), and need to be referred for investigation.

Digestive system issues here 🙋‍♂️

I *think* it's related to food/drink moving slowly down my oesophagus (discovered during a videofluoscopy), and I've been referred to Gastroenterology to confirm and/or help further.

Personally I don't have bowel movement issues, nor have I heard it before (that doesn't mean it isn't something to consider though!) - I see wobblybee has mentioned people do, so don't dismiss it as an ataxia symptom. It may also be a side affect of any medication you're on.

Discuss any symptoms of concern with your specialist, or your GP if you're not seeing a specialist.

My digestive system from top to bottom, is. slower than it should be! Constipation, swallowing, and slow digesting is a problem for me! Because I have been diagnosed with Cerebellum Ataxia, and with Parkinson’s Disease, I don’t know for sure, which ailment is causing the digestive problems that I have. Perhaps both ailments, cause my problems.

I dont know either but can only say, I personally, have always suffered constipation even before loss of mobility.

Hi. I have Cerebellar Ataxia and also have bowel/digestive and occasional swallowing problems. I had tests done on my swallowing and results showed that I have symptoms similar to Achalasia type III. Sometimes when swallowing my throat/oesophagus goes into a spasm causing me to choke and gasp for breath. I also have problems in my digestive system and have chronic constipation. Consultant specialists in this field said my swallowing and bowel problems may be linked to my ataxia.

I think we have something called the Autonomic Nervous System which keeps the internal organs working, some SCRs effect this system which may cause problems. Maybe have a look on Dr Google and see what you think. It’s all to much for my brain to understand as I have a lower IQ than a builders boot. Take care all 👍🏻 .
