Hi,

Does anyone know if those with FA will be added to the new shielding list?

Thanks

I was added to the shielding list in may 2020. I have FA.

Hi dansybelle

The information from the Government does not give specific details of who the newest people being advised to shield are, only 'further individuals who may be at high risk from COVID-19 due to a combination of personal and health factors.'

I thought FA came under the Extreme Vulnerable due to potential heart problems? I’d definitely be writing to your practice manager explaining your illness & the symptoms you have. Just because it maybe in your notes doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve already got a vaccine code at the side of your name! I had to get intouch with mine & found out I wasn’t even down as being in ANY vulnerable category!

Thanks for the info. I only have slight issues with my heart so know I am vulnerable but maybe not extremely. I have actually had the vaccine through work (I teach kids with special needs) and am working from home currently. I’m just wondering what happens when the schools fully reopen. I did get in touch with my Gp in the new year before they announced that schools would be (mostly) closed and I was worried about going in. The Gp was useless- wrote me a letter saying I was at increased risk of Covid (but didn’t specify whether she meant increased risk of catching it or being more affected! She then wrote that I should “work from home if possible” and I thought “great” that’s the government advice for EVERYONE anyway at the moment! I didn’t bother to give it to my boss!

If I were you I would send them a copy of the government & ataxia uk shielding information leaflets along with a brief note explaining your illness & symptoms & ask them to register the shielding code to your gp register. I had to this & they rang me the next day to say I wasn’t on ANY vulnerable list but that they had put the code on my gp file now! It’s absolutely ridiculous at the moment, health ‘professionals’ have absolutely no idea what ataxia is & do many ppl are getting forgotten & ignored!😡

Have a look at these links from ataxia uk, there’s also a template later you can use. healthunlocked.com/api/redi...

Unfortunately I’ll have to post them separately as I have to copy them from somewhere else

Also, Harry B who has posted a reply to you is an excellent person to follow on here, gives lots of invaluable information & links.

Best wishes.
