Has anyone tried Arginine. Saw this article and ... - Ataxia UK
Has anyone tried Arginine. Saw this article and was thinking about trying it. Any suggestion.
🤔 This still has to go to Clinical Trials, so it might be best to wait before taking it.
if I waited for a clinical trial fo everything related to ataxia to see if it works, I will be dead by then.
This is a well known vitamin so the risks are well known.
Upside = It helps with a debilitating disease
Downside = I loose 10 bucks for ordering
People have been using it for post work without reporting any negative impacts. Also knowing there is little commercial benefit from this, it will never make it to a clinical trial phase.
At the end of day, its all about the greens for big Pharma.
I saw this article too and thought, hey isn’t this a readily available vitamin? I researched it and the only side effects are some GI upset. So I got some and actually started taking it last week. What dosage were you thinking of taking? I don’t recall how long came to this conclusion but I’m taking 2000 mg. I’ll keep you updated on any progress.
Like you said, if you waited for it to come to clinical trials it’d probably be too late, Let me know if you decide to try it.
I am taking the same dose, 1000 mg in the am and 1000 mg in the pm. Hopefully its beneficial, will keep you posted.
Thank you so much for the response.
I stumbled upon this article and have ordered the supplements.
I will give them to my son as we really have absolutely nothing to lose!
I’m really interested in your post about arginine. I have researched it on line and am confused as it seems to suggest that 10 gm is the maximum you should take but see that you are taking 2000gm each day?! Have you had any side effects?
I always think that you have to take a supplement for at least a month before you see any benefit so please keep us posted. Anything which could help to relieve balance issues is worth a try and as you say we could all be dead if we wait for clinical trials which may never happen.
I look forward to hearing of your progress.
Barbara
Barbara, I am no sure where you re read 10 mg, I couldn't find and medical research that states a limit of how much one should take in a day.
So the reason i did 1000 mg is bcz my pills bottle recommended 2 pills a day and quantity per pill is 1000 mg. There are definitely pills with lower potency but i thought to start high and adjust if I felt any side effects. So far, none to be noted and I been taking it for almost a week.
Benefits might be too early to say since there may be a placebo effect, but one thing i noticed the very next day is the groggy feeling i have in my head that seems to be gone for now, so i am going to give this atleast couple of months. Meanwhile, I'll keep posting my progress.
PS- I tried searching for 10 mg Arginine and couldn't find it.
Also, here's a link of what I am using. Hope that helps.
We live in the UK, so I ordered:
naturesbest.co.uk/amino-aci...
The only thing is that these are really large tablets.
Might be difficult to take
Our son is taking 4 per day (the packaging advises to take 1-4 per day).
Huge thanks - I too hope works x
Sounds promising, am looking forward to hearing bout how it does for you. Best of luck, truly
Week 1
So far the groggy feeling I get in my head seems to be gone and i get up to pee every am and pray, I am feeling much more balanced and strong doing it.
Week 2 & 3
No real change , i think it is making me feel a bit stronger so i am gonna keep taking it.
Firstly, Arginine is an amino acid not a vitamin.
Secondly I can confirm that many aminos needed to get optimum performance out of your body. The muscles need amino acids as does the brain. Research yourself on athletic websites. Bodybuilding.com is a favourite.
I've been taking arginine for some years and yes it has a good effect.
Amino acids I would recommend...
BCAAs (3)
Arginine
Tyrosine
Citruline Malate
Creatine (3)
Glutamine
NAC
Plus All essential amino acids
