Morning all,
I’m finding it difficult sometimes to retrieve words I want to use. Is this another symptom of my Friedreich’s progressing or a just a sign of being in my 50s?

🤔 It’s highly likely this isn’t just related to FA. I have a different diagnosis and have the same problem. It is frustrating, but for the most part I try to laugh it off...
I have the same problem, I can be mid sentence and then forget what I was going to say or I can't remember the names of things
I have always found it difficult to retrieve even names or tv programmes which is a great source of amusement for my family. I think it is probably yet another symptom of Ataxia. I have SCA 1 and so have had a lifetime of people thinking I am a bit slow and so it’s almost a relief to have something to blame it on!
I have the same problem although I don’t have FA, I have SCA from 54 years old. I’m now 58 and in the last 4 years I can remember words that I want to use but have to look up their meaning to make sure that I’m using correctly. In my life prior to diagnosis I had a very extensive vocabulary and used it with great confidence. It’s very frustrating now! Especially when speaking. When writing I can pause to look a word up but when speaking I find myself trying to substitute easier terms which is very tiring for me and sometimes embarrassing.
Hi, I have Friedreichs and have found that over the past 2 years my word finding has become affected. I had put this down to 2 things - menopause and early retirement from work. In my job I was a manager and was constantly answering questions and speaking to people. Now, however, I speak to people less so wondered if my brain had just got lazy! I have had mixed messages about whether cognition is affected in FA but the fatigue also contributes to my word finding. Hope this helps?
Take care.
I have Ataxia due to Niemann Pick C (NPC) disease (20+years) and have trouble remembering words! I slur my speech and find it fatiguing to talk, beside. I'm also 66 years of age and blame my word forgetting a bit on this, as well as NPC! My best to you..., ;o)
