Son with Ataxia

My son is 7 years old and has been dealing with a walking disorder that they have yet to actually diagnose but they are leaning towards cerebral ataxia. He showed no signs until September 2018.

Could anyone recommend a vest that could possibly help his mobility?

🙂 Currently, there are 2 vests on the market, but sometimes it’s a case of trial and error as to whether any benefit is experienced. It can very much depend on the type of ataxia, and it’s likely weights may have to be altered as symptoms change.

motiontherapeutics.com supply the Balance Vest, and otvest.com the OT Vest.

The vests work on totally different principles, so look carefully at the websites. Unfortunately the Balancewear Vest is only supplied after personal consultation with one of their trained Therapists, but there isn’t currently a Therapist in the UK. The OT Vest can be ordered online after various questions have been answered.

I tried both Vests myself at a National Ataxia Foundation Conference in the US. My problems tend to be Vestibular and I found the OT Vest made me feel more ‘grounded’.
