Hi, my son was diagnosed with aca following chicken pox virus in feb this year, his symptoms seem to resolve within 2-3 weeks. He started school in September and they are noticing his proprioception is reduced. Has anyone on here had any children with aca after chicken pox virus? Do your children have any long term problems? I’m wondering if it maybe linked or maybe nothing to do with aca?

Hi my daughter was 6 when diagnosed with the same although the cause was unknown. It can’t have been chicken pox in her case as she had had the vaccination and all the tests drew a blank. Whatever it was cause damage to her cerebellum (confirmed by MRI) which has caused all sorts of problems for her balance and coordination which she is still recovering from 2 years down the line. We saw the top neurologist in this field for children at Sheffield children’s hospital (Peter Baxter - since retired) and he did say that it is usually the case that children recover better and more quickly where the cause was Chicken Pox. So hopefully this applies in your son’s case. I can also tell you that the improvements do come with practice of the tasks/movements that are difficult so don’t give up hope even if he is having some struggles at the moment. Good luck, I know how tough it can be x
