Students : My Neurologist wants me to go to the... - Ataxia UK
Students
I have not had this but am signed up to take part in research at John Radcliffe Hospital.
It is a personal thing but I feel that anything that raises awareness of ataxia is a good thing. It is your choice though.
I hope you are keeping well.
I spent a week at a teaching medical center, and the neurology students had fun, trying to figure my problem out! It was difficult. I have Ataxia, due to nerve root compression at the cerebellar pontine angle of the brain. Try to figure that one out! It is very rare, so my case was a great one for the students! I enjoyed talking to them, although, at the time, I was very concerned about what my diagnosis and outcome would be.
I spent 3 weeks in hospital having various tests in 1999. As a result of this, after I was discharged, I was asked to be a "subject". The students, I was told were all qualified doctors. Apart from one who I had seen in the hospital previously, only one student got the diagnosis correct. I do hope things have improved but somehow I doubt it. If I have to see a different GP, the chances are that I have to explain my condition, and even then they rarely understand how Ataxia impacts daily life.
SOUDS FUN???
