Hi Neta

Have you been told by a doctor/optometrist that your visual disturbance is related to your Ataxia?

Yes..this was their impression and there was nothing to do. Curious if there is a treatment? Beryl seems to think there was/is. xxN

I tried to get help with double vision and actually spoke with the surgeon who would've performed the operation. But he said if prism glasses help (2 pairs) use them instead as he couldn't promise a positive outcome

thanx for your answer. Did you get the prisms in the end?? Was the neurologist or the ophthalmologist the provider? xxN

🙂 I didn’t have ‘blurry eyes’ Neta. I had double vision and nystagmus. Prisms can be prescribed by any Optician to help control double vision. Complicated double vision can be dealt with by an NeuroOpthalmologist, I had a Botox injection, and then surgery to realign the muscle. My double vision was said to be caused by Iritis. Re Nystagmus, I said I’d read about new treatment carried out at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, magnets had been implanted to control the condition 🙂 xBeryl

Dear Beryl, I opened the link to Moorefields which you kindly sent in a different email. My question is do you know anyone who had the magnetic eye surgery? Do all ataxian's have this? How can I tell whats blurry and what is double vision? xxN

Het4s my final question on this matter: Do prisms control nystagmus? Anyone?

Prisms do not control Nystagmus. See moorfields.nhs.uk and search for ‘ magnetic implants to treat dancing eyes’ 🙂xB

Hi I've not found anything as yet but have had to stop driving as the visual disturbances increase on movement. Opthalmology did try prisms with me but they just made my head spin more so no good for me unfortunately. My glasses do help but only by reducing the amount of headaches I get. Let me know if you stumble across anything that helps.

OK I will.

😏 Unfortunately prisms aren’t the answer for everybody. I know myself that although vision improved, my actual balance was more compromised. 🙂 xB
