Does anyone know if ataxia is classed as a critical illness

Critical illness
I have critical illness cover and child critical illness, although it's not listed as one of the conditions it may be covered under another area. I think there is a total disability element, but I do not have this on my child policy, therefore after a complaint to the financial ombudsman I have had a call from insurance to say she may be covered under loss of independence. If you have cover I would suggest contacting them and if no joy write to ombudsmen and see if they can help. Other conditions with similar impact are covered.
If it's "progressive" you may be able to claim. Ataxia UK can help if you are in the UK. Advocacy service 🤗
Hi 12taz,
yes ataxia is covered under critical illness - you will have needed to take it out though before your diagnosis! I had the total disability element (which I didn't realise but my fabulous brother , who is a financial consultant, sorted it for me with my mortgage). I have just finished completing the paperwork and re-sending copies of medical reports and have had my mortgage paid in full. Good luck!
My husband has cerebellum Ataxia, he is now a retired police officer with critical illness insurance with Sussex Police. He was diagnosed 3yrs before retirement but they refused his diagnosis. Best of British with your claim. X
