Magnet therapy in ataxia?

Has any one had any success with magnet therapy for ataxia? My father in law has given my husband (he has cerebellar ataxia) strong magnets to wear around his head, this seems to be making his symptoms worse but father in law insists that is not a bad sign and proves that's it is working, feeling very sceptical.

I was thinking of going this route because my dentist has a "sideline" involving magnets but he cannot shed any light on how it works and sells it mainly for things like backaches--which he suffered from. Im sorry if this was unhelpful. Please let me know more if knowledge of magnets comes your way.
