Yes, definitely. The form-filling takes a while and you may have to attend an interview, but certainly worth it.

Yes you are my advice is get the Citizens advice centre to help you. It is not an easy process. You will probably have to go for an assessment regardless of what your Doctors say. Ask for that to be recorded but I am sure CAB will advise you. The award is from the day you apply.

Hi Kyra,

PIP replaced Disability Living Allowance - it is non means tested so is not affected by how much money you have coming in from earnings/ other benefits etc. It is based on how your condition affects you. There are few automatic entitlements for conditions these days since guidelines were tightened.

gov.uk/pip/eligibility

Do take the test questions Shield has linked you to in their post to see how many points you would potentially score and what level of PIP you may be entitled to. The important thing to consider in answering is whether you can do the activities listed without pain/fatigue, breathlessness etc, in a reasonable timeframe, repeatedly, as often as you need to.

I have just filled in my forms and am awaiting further contact ( expecting a face to face assessment ).

Best of luck ! Let us know how you go on : )

Kyra, I have just read your other post , regarding your symptoms. Sorry you have had to finish work - it can be a big change, can't it ? Do you use a walking aid ( stick or similar ) to help with your mobility ?

hi angela, no I don't use a walking aide at all (yet)..I've tried with my mums stick and found it difficult & clumsy, i use who ever I'm with for support while I go out and walls, doors or whatever I can get hold of lol..it's a difficult condition to get my head round & come to terms with! I have actually found a small support group in my area that meets up every so often, small being 4 of us, we all have different degrees of Ataxia, me being more able than the rest, but at least I know what to expect as I get older...:-( x

a bit of info on sticks - Try elbow crutch - it gives more stability. Do lots of exercise - specially swimming - that will keep you independent and mobile for longer.

of course, but do take advice on filling the form - Find out if there is Asosciation for Disabled in your area - they are very good at helping you fill the form, accompany you to the interview - If you have someone from an organisation backing you then getting PiP is guranteed
