Tried using an EMS machine for 4/5 days not sure if it helped peripheral neuropathy but it really made my burning hot feet worse at night I was up every 2/3hours trying to cool them down, don't waste your money.

Don't use an EMS machine if you get burning hot feet at night.
I have a COMPEX SP8.0 and it can be adjusted based on its measurement of the muscles. As you said do not go to maximum levels as this can cause later discomfort. However, with regular use it helps with muscle function, coordination and balance by activating and working the muscles that would not normally function well. I have SCA3 and find it useful. If not used at maximum levels it has reduced the stinging and pain in my feet so I can manage to sleep.
That's great I've just had a problem with very hot feet at night.I woken more times and it's taken about an hour each time to cool down since I 've been using it. I wanted to warn people if they have burning hot feet at night. I'm glad ìt's helping you.x
The COMPEX SP8.0 autosenses the condition of the muscles throughout the session so it controls the response within limits. Suggest you try much lower settings to just activate nerves so muscles twitch without high loads with your EMS. Not sure which unit and what settings you are using. If you are working on your shins or calves and you are feeling the current in your feet it is probably set too high. Just back it off. The aim is to ensure the nerves are able to control the muscles and then look to work muscles gradually to get better control for balance and walking. I hope this helps.
A TENS machine uses different (higher) frequencies to block pain signals than an Electrical Muscle Stimulator (EMS) which works the muscles. I am finding that my calves require 2x higher recovery settings than contractions setting. My quads and shins are operating okay and the opposite is seen for my calves . That is, the recovery settings are typically 1/2 of the contraction setting. I am thinking the calves are having nerve signal issues and hopefully regular EMS workout will see changes. At least I have reduced the foot and ankle pains. I will keep you posted as this may make a difference for many others.
Good that it's helped with foot and ankle pain, I have peripheral neuropathy and restless legs I was hoping it would help.x
