Self admin of Mepolizumab

Gave myself the first injection today, so simple!

Much better than waiting around for the home admin team, lovely though they were. I’m nervous about storing the injections correctly and travelling with them but on the whole, great to be free to give myself the injection at my convenience.

I have been self administering since November, very easy and painless system. It does save having to take time out from work to go to the hospital. I couldn't always get an early appointment, which meant more time out of work.

Much better than the Semaglutide injections I also self administer which are multi use pen and you have to screw on a needle before use, dial up the dosage, inject yourself then unscrew the needle and dispose of the needle.

I agree totally, saves me an hour’s drive each way,an hour to park, money for petrol and parking and sitting in a cramped room full of coughing and spluttering folk!

Do you collect the injections from the hospital or your surgery? Thank you.

They are delivered to my house every 3 months and need to be kept in the fridge, a nurse came and gave me a very thorough teaching session and information on how to take them abroad etc. Life will be a lot easier👍

At the moment they deliver 1 injection per month, normally mid month between doses.

I administered my 1st dose at the hospital clinic with the specialist nurse.

I’m sure it will happen, cheaper and better all round for everyone hopefully x

In the instructions there are comments of someone at home, carer etc, giving the injection in the arm.

That’s brilliant I’m just waiting for our hospital to sort this out. One of the reasons they haven’t is around the subject of storage and patient information. I can’t wait for this to happen as I travel to Europe regularly and obviously need to fit everything around my injections every four weeks. That said It’s altered my life so I’m not complaining 😊

I must admit, it feels a bit of a responsibility keeping such expensive drugs in my fridge, they have to be kept between 2-8 degrees. I’ve a second fridge in our garage but I check temps every day and worry about power cuts, that being said they can be kept at room temperature for 7 days or refrigerated longer.
